Sound Pieces with Visual Score: These are three of my favorite sound compositions generated by a score system I built around leaf scans. Each composition is an interpretation of the leaves’ veins, scars, holes, cracks, as well as the visual annotations made by my own hand. While recording, the act of translation was activated and paced by the movement of the red line across the static visual score. Rule systems distinct within each composition cause the leaves’ natural form to become a kind of interface for the various oscillator, envelope, and filter parameters of my synthesizer. I feel each piece is about as accurate a translation of its respective leaf as a Child's drawing of their house - which I think is beautiful.
